About the role#
This paid summer 2026 externship provides students with hands-on experience in the operating room. The program is designed to prepare participants for a transition into a Surgical Technician role upon completion of the MVCC Surgical Technologist program.
What you'll do#
- Assist in preparing a clean, safe, and efficient environment for patient care.
- Utilize aseptic surgical techniques, including gowning, gloving, and draping the surgical area.
- Act as a scrub assistant and maintain knowledge of various surgical procedures.
- Set up the operating room for surgical cases, including moving and operating equipment like tables, cameras, and microscopes.
- Maintain accurate counts of instruments and sponges.
- Transport patients, equipment, and supplies.
- Notify appropriate staff members of emergent patient care situations or equipment issues.
- Adhere to infection control programs and standard precautions.
What you'll need#
- High school diploma.
- Current enrollment and good standing in the MVCC Surgical Technologist program, including completion of the first and second cohorts.
- BLS certification.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Basic computer proficiency.
