About the role#
This Nursing Internship at Mohawk Valley Health System provides hands-on experience in a clinical environment. You work under the direction of a floor RN to support patient care and unit operations. This is a paid, per diem position.
What you'll do#
- Provide direct patient care including bathing, grooming, toileting, and positioning.
- Record patient measurements like vital signs, intake and output, and weights.
- Assist with patient mobility using proper body mechanics and transfer devices.
- Respond to patient call lights and assist with room preparation for admissions or discharges.
- Collect and label specimens for lab transport.
- Set up equipment such as portable oxygen, suction, and telemetry electrodes.
- Assist providers with wound care, dressing changes, and exam procedures.
- Secure and transport medications safely.
- Perform tasks like EKGs or phlebotomy after receiving training.
- Monitor patients requiring 1:1 observation and assist with transport.
- Maintain unit cleanliness and restock supplies.
- Alert the supervising RN immediately regarding abnormal findings or patient changes.
- Respond to emergency situations as needed.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited Nursing Program.
- Completion of at least one semester of clinical rotations.
- Prior clinical experience is preferred but not required.
