    About the role#

    Moffatt & Nichol is seeking a Structural Intern for our Seattle and Federal Way offices during the Summer 2027 term. This is a full-time, temporary position focused on supporting project teams with technical tasks in engineering. You will produce drawings, models, calculations, and data sets while learning core workflows and standards. Work is performed under direct supervision.

    What you'll do#

    • Analyze and design waterfront and marine structures including piers, wharves, bulkheads, seawalls, offshore platforms, mooring and berthing dolphins, catwalks, utility support, drainage structures, retaining walls, towers, and foundations.
    • Use timber, structural steel, reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete, aluminum, and composite materials in your designs.
    • Assist in the development of plans, specifications, calculations, and reports.
    • Help resolve design problems through field investigations, detailed design, and checking computations.
    • Calculate construction quantity estimates.
    • Collaborate with architects, engineers, scientists, and project managers on multi-discipline projects.
    • Perform structural site inspections and prepare inspection reports.
    • Handle office construction administration, including the review of shop drawings and technical submittals.

    What you'll need#

    • Current pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering with a Structural emphasis.
    • Must be entering the final year of your degree program following the summer of employment.
    • Completed coursework in Engineering Materials, Structural Analysis, and at least one material design course (reinforced concrete or structural steel).
    • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
    • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.
    • Preference is given to Master’s degree students, those with EIT certification, and those with at least one previous related internship.
    • Experience with AutoCAD, SAP2000, LPile, Mathcad, and Bluebeam is preferred.
    • Ability to perform field investigations is preferred.

    Location & details#

    • This is an on-site role based in Seattle or Federal Way, Washington.
    • The position is a temporary, full-time internship for Summer 2027.
    • This role is paid with a base salary range of $28.00 to $36.00 per hour, depending on education and experience.
