About the role#
The Bioanalytical and Molecular Assay team is seeking a co-op student to support laboratory-based bioanalytical LC-MS/MS activities for clinical programs. This role provides hands-on experience in sample preparation, instrument analysis, data processing, and regulated laboratory documentation. You will work alongside scientists and research associates on assays involving lipids, biomarkers, proteins, and peptides.
What you'll do#
- Support LC-MS/MS method development, optimization, and sample analysis.
- Perform sample preparation from biological matrices using techniques like protein precipitation, SPE, LLE, and enzymatic digestion.
- Prepare calibration standards, quality controls, reagents, buffers, and study samples.
- Assist with LC-MS/MS instrument setup, sample loading, sequence preparation, and routine laboratory activities.
- Process and review analytical data using software such as SCIEX platforms and Thermo Scientific Xcalibur.
- Support sample tracking, run management, and study documentation using Watson LIMS and ELN.
- Maintain accurate experimental records following established procedures and SOPs.
- Assist with the evaluation of assay performance including calibration curves, QCs, accuracy, and precision.
- Support basic troubleshooting of instrumentation, chromatography, and data-processing issues.
- Participate in team discussions to communicate experimental observations and results.
- Follow laboratory safety, GLP/GCP principles, and data-integrity practices.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a BS or MS degree in chemistry, biochemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, analytical chemistry, biotechnology, or a related field.
- Prior laboratory experience through coursework, academic research, or previous internships.
- Interest in bioanalytical chemistry, mass spectrometry, and pharmaceutical research.
- Ability to follow written procedures and work effectively in a collaborative environment.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and communication skills.
- Experience with biological sample preparation is preferred.
- Familiarity with LC-MS/MS software and laboratory data systems like Watson LIMS.
- Basic understanding of chromatography, mass spectrometry, or quantitative analytical techniques.
