About the role#
Michael Baker International is hiring a Highway Design Intern for Summer 2027. You will work at our Dearborn, Michigan office. This role supports transportation engineers and project managers with planning, design, and production on highway and roadway projects. You will work under the supervision of project managers or licensed engineers.
What you'll do#
- Prepare engineering calculations, drawings, and visual aids.
- Assist with engineering analysis and design tasks.
- Draft details and perform minor CAD revisions.
- Support the preparation of design plans, reports, technical memorandums, and construction specifications.
- Assist with data collection, input, verification, and analysis.
- Help with quantity take-offs, cost estimate preparation, and material or equipment cost solicitation.
- Assist with field documentation, report generation, and general administrative tasks.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Bachelor or Master degree program in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
- Completion of at least one year of college coursework.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Good analytical skills and strong technical writing ability.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation is preferred.
