About the role#
Michael Baker International is looking for a Bridge Inspection Intern for the Summer 2027 term. You will work within our bridge practice to support projects and assignments under the direct supervision and mentorship of our staff. This is a part-time, paid internship designed to help you learn the profession.
What you'll do#
- Assist NBIS Team Leaders or inspection teams with the inspection of bridges, culverts, retaining walls, noise barriers, and sign structures.
- Document findings, measure deterioration, and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Help professionals with project plans, drawings, design, and analysis.
- Support Project Managers and Engineers with various daily tasks.
- Collect, input, verify, and manipulate data.
- Prepare inspection reports, basic studies, and design work.
- Complete calculations for cost estimates and structural element dimensions.
- Create and edit documents such as spreadsheets, presentations, and communications.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in an ABET accredited university or college in good academic standing.
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master’s preferred).
- Completed college-level engineering coursework with a focus on structures.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Office.
- Experience with MicroStation is preferred.
- A valid U.S. Driver’s license.
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to travel as needed, including overnight stays for periods of 7 to 10 days.

- Compensation: $20 - $25 per hour.
