About the role#
This internship focuses on the protection and maintenance of subway structures, including elevated lines, viaducts, open-cut sections, and stations. You will work within the Department of Subways to support structural safety, capital contracts, and preventive maintenance efforts.
What you'll do#
- Conduct structural component inspections alongside senior engineers to ensure service safety.
- Design steel columns, beams, concrete slabs, and walls.
- Prepare sketches for temporary shoring and permanent repairs using MicroStation.
- Review field inspection reports and update the EAM defect database.
- Conduct punch list inspections for capital contracts to verify compliance with transit standards.
- Prepare project profiles to support State of Good Repair (SOGR) initiatives.
- Review design drawings for capital contracts and prepare cost estimates for small projects.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate program (minimum 2.5 GPA) or graduate program (minimum 2.8 GPA) in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks, and maintain attention to detail.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.

- Compensation: $19.00 per hour for undergraduates and $21.00 per hour for graduate students.
