About the role#
This Civil Engineering Intern position supports senior engineers in delivering track engineering assistance for maintenance of way, capital construction, and development projects. The role focuses on track systems, switches, third rail infrastructure, ADA station modernization, and platform rehabilitation. This is a full-time, paid, on-site role based in Brooklyn, New York, requiring an overnight shift from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
What you'll do#
- Design special trackwork and conduct field engineering surveys.
- Provide construction support and review shop drawings.
- Evaluate first-article materials and maintain standard track drawings and specifications.
- Participate in derailment investigations and other track-related incidents.
- Ensure the timely completion of in-house and third-party track projects to maintain system safety.
What you'll need#
- A baccalaureate degree in civil engineering from an accredited college.
- Knowledge of MS Office suite, internet applications, and mobile applications.
- Proficiency in the structural inspection of concrete and steel.
- Ability to read and write technical drawings and correspondence.
- In-depth knowledge of construction design and code issues.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work independently or in a team.
