About the role#
The Inter-American Development Bank is hiring an intern to support data management and hydroclimatic risk analytics for the Amazon region. This is a paid, full-time opportunity for graduate students to gain professional experience in development work. You will work on-site at the Bank's headquarters in Washington D.C. for the Winter 2027 term.
What you'll do#
- Manage and curate climate and hydrological geospatial datasets to ensure data quality and accessibility.
- Support risk analyses of water infrastructure by processing data on floods, droughts, and climate change impacts.
- Build data visualizations, maps, and dashboards to support decision-making for water security operations.
- Assist in the preparation of technical reports, presentations, and documentation of analytical workflows.
- Collaborate with the team on research and project preparation for initiatives in the Amazon Basin.
What you'll need#
- You must be an active graduate student in Environmental Engineering, Data Science, Civil Engineering, Business Administration, Statistics, Computer Science, or Mathematics. You must have completed at least 50% of your coursework.
- Proficiency in Python, R, SQL, and Excel is required for data processing and analysis.
- Experience with GIS platforms such as QGIS is necessary.
- Familiarity with hydroclimatic, climate, environmental, and socioeconomic datasets.
- Fluency in English and a working knowledge of one other Bank language.
- You must be a national of an IDB member country and a first-time participant in an IDB Group internship program.
