About the role#
Reality Labs creates wearable devices that connect people. These products are manufactured and tested at scale. The Manufacturing Test Engineering team develops the strategies and systems to ensure every device meets its requirements. This role focuses on connecting product requirements, factory test coverage, and real-world field outcomes. You will help build a closed feedback loop to determine if factory tests align with actual customer needs.
What you'll do#
- Learn how products move from requirements through design, manufacturing, and testing across various categories.
- Build a traceability framework that links product requirements to engineering test requirements and readiness plans.
- Identify requirements that are untested, over-tested, or untraceable.
- Analyze field data, including customer reviews and failure analysis of returned devices.
- Map observed failures to the test coverage that should have caught them.
- Identify coverage gaps and excess tests that add cost or time without protecting customer requirements.
- Partner with product management, quality, reliability, design, and test engineering teams to validate findings.
- Recommend and implement a repeatable process for closing the loop from field outcomes back into test requirements.
- Present your analysis and recommendations to the team and engineering leadership.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelors or Masters program in Systems, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering Management, or a related field.
- Ability to structure ambiguous problems and drive them to clear recommendations.
- Data analysis experience using Excel, Python, SQL, or similar tools, including work with qualitative data like failure reports.
- Intent to return to your degree program after the internship.
- Coursework or project experience in requirements management, systems engineering, or verification and validation.
- Exposure to quality or reliability concepts like root cause analysis, FMEA, 8D, or statistical process control.
- Experience in a manufacturing, supply chain, or operations environment.
- Experience coordinating across teams with competing priorities.
- Experience using AI tools for data synthesis or document review.
- Must obtain and maintain work authorization in the United States.
