About the role#
This internship provides college students and recent graduates with hands-on experience in animal husbandry. You will work directly with staff to learn daily operations at the Northwest Passage and Teton Trek areas. The program covers the care of polar bears, black bears, grizzly bears, sea lions, wolves, elk, porcupines, eagles, and various waterfowl. This is an unpaid, full-time position.
What you'll do#
- Assist with diet preparation, exhibit cleaning, maintenance, training, and enrichment.
- Keep accurate records and observe animal behavior.
- Lead formal and informal presentations to engage zoo guests.
- Help produce special events, animal celebrations, and awareness days.
- Keep animal and work areas clean and organized.
- Complete a special project focused on research, observations, or enrichment.
What you'll need#
- Status as a college student or recent graduate with an interest in biology, zoology, environmental science, or education.
- Ability to work 24 to 40 hours per week for a 10 to 12 week term.
- Capacity to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to follow directions.
- Enthusiasm and good judgment when interacting with children and guests.
- Proficiency in Office 365, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Successful completion of a background check and TB test.
