About the role#
McElhanney is hiring for a 4-month summer internship in 2027 within our Survey Division in Kamloops, BC. This full-time, paid position offers hands-on experience in both field and office environments. You will work alongside multidisciplinary teams to support infrastructure and land development projects while developing skills in geomatics technology.
What you'll do#
- Assist with the operation of GNSS receivers for RTK and static measurements, as well as total stations.
- Collect, process, and prepare survey data, plans, and project files.
- Research plans, titles, documents, and related geospatial information.
- Maintain, clean, and monitor the condition of equipment and vehicles.
- Learn to operate emerging technologies like drones and 3D laser scanning equipment.
- Work in office and field settings across Kamloops and surrounding project sites.
- Participate in company safety practices to ensure all team members work safely.
- Collaborate with Project Managers to prepare deliverables for project delivery.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Diploma or Degree program in Geomatics Engineering, Geomatics Technology, Surveying, GIS, Geospatial, Drafting, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
- A valid Class 5 Driver's License.
- Ability to work in outdoor settings, including wilderness or backcountry environments, for extended periods with varied hours.
- Capacity to work on busy sites with varied terrain and the physical ability to lift equipment.
- Willingness and ability to travel and work out of town.
- Strong attention to detail, good judgment, and clear communication skills.
- Previous outdoor work experience is an asset.
