About the role#
McClatchy Media is offering a 10-week, paid summer internship for students pursuing Journalism or Communications. Interns work on-site in San Luis Obispo, gaining professional experience by contributing to the newsroom alongside reporters and editors. This position includes weekly skills training sessions and networking opportunities.
What you'll do#
- Work on stories and contribute to newsroom coverage.
- Collaborate with seasoned staff members and work directly with local leaders.
- Receive coaching, training, and mentorship from an assigned senior-level mentor.
- Operate as a staff member in roles such as reporter, visual storyteller, or audience and social media specialist.
What you'll need#
- Strong writing and communication skills.
- Previous experience reporting or producing for a student or professional news publication is preferred.
- Ability to live near the San Luis Obispo newsroom for the duration of the internship.
