About the role#
Mativ is hiring a Process Engineer Intern for a 10-week program at our Lowville Mill during Summer 2027. You will work within a multi-functional team to gain hands-on experience in real-time production, process improvement, and project management. This role involves direct exposure to mill leadership and requires you to spend time on the operating floor to understand technical properties and quality issues related to our paper-based materials.
What you'll do#
- Follow all safety procedures and promote a safe work environment.
- Collaborate with the team on process efficiency, cost savings, and technology advancement.
- Update existing mill documentation and drawings.
- Identify paper defects and develop plans to resolve them.
- Participate in new customer or product trials.
- Attend leadership meetings to report on assigned tasks.
- Modify or create standard operating procedures.
- Complete project work as assigned by mill management.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in a degree program for Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering.
- Completion of at least one full year of course work.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Ability to analyze information to find opportunities and communicate findings effectively.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Willingness to work on the operating floor and wear required PPE.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment physical, drug and alcohol screening, and a background check.
- A GPA of 3.0 or higher and prior internship experience are preferred.

- Location: Lowville, New York.
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Modality: On-site, full-time.
- Compensation: $22.00 to $25.00 per hour, depending on experience.
- Schedule: Primarily Monday through Friday, daytime, though evening and weekend work may be required.
