About the role#
Mativ is looking for a Process Optimization Intern to support manufacturing operations in Roanoke, Virginia. This role focuses on identifying, analyzing, and improving production processes. You will work with Engineering, Operations, Quality, and Maintenance teams to gather data, conduct process studies, and implement enhancements.
What you'll do#
- Analyze manufacturing processes to find efficiency improvements.
- Collect and interpret production data, KPIs, and process metrics.
- Conduct time studies, workflow analysis, and value stream mapping.
- Support Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assist with root cause investigations and corrective actions.
- Create process documentation, standard work instructions, and visual management tools.
- Participate in Kaizen events and process improvement workshops.
- Report findings and recommendations to the team.
- Collaborate with cross-functional groups to implement changes.
- Support projects focused on cost reduction, scrap reduction, and productivity.
- Assist with equipment layout, material flow, and workspace optimization.
- Monitor project progress and verify results through data analysis.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Business Analytics, or a related field.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio, or Adobe Acrobat.
- An interest in manufacturing, safety standards, and quality systems.
- Comfort working in a plant or production environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to balance multiple assignments.
- Familiarity with statistical analysis tools is a plus.
- A basic understanding of Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma principles.
Location & details#
- Location: Roanoke, Virginia.
- Term: Summer 2027 (May to August).
- Work Modality: On-site.
- This is a full-time, paid internship.
- You must be able to work in a manufacturing environment that may include dust, fumes, odors, and variable temperatures.
- You will be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment, such as safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection.
- Physical requirements include the ability to lift 50 pounds, push or pull up to 250 pounds, and perform repetitive tasks while standing, walking, or bending.
