About the role#
As a Physical Design Engineer Intern, you will work on the silicon technologies that power cloud, AI, storage, and networking solutions. You will join a team focused on the implementation of ASIC and processor designs or timing analysis for high-performance data center chips. This is a full-time, paid internship for Summer 2027.
What you'll do#
- Perform synthesis, floor planning, place and route, clock insertion, and timing analysis on complex logic blocks.
- Drive timing closure for active designs.
- Write scripts in Python, TCL, Perl, and Shell to support design and development tasks.
- Analyze and debug design violations using CAD tools.
- Work with RTL and synthesis teams to resolve congestion and timing bottlenecks.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Master's degree program for Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, with an expected graduation between Fall 2027 and Summer 2028.
- Completed coursework in VLSI, digital logic, circuit design, computer architecture, RTL synthesis, Verilog or SystemVerilog, and static timing analysis.
- Proficiency in Python, TCL, Perl, and Shell scripting.
- Experience working in a Unix environment.
- Familiarity with industry tools such as Synopsys PrimeTime, Cadence Tempus, and Mentor.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

- This is an on-site role available in Santa Clara, CA; Austin, TX; Morrisville, NC; Rochester, MN; Burlington, VT; Westborough, MA; and Boise, ID.
