About the role#
This is a paid summer internship based in Paducah, Kentucky. You will gain hands-on experience in maritime law, including the Jones Act, contracts, litigation, insurance, and finance. This role offers exposure to the legal operations of a major marine transportation company and provides opportunities to network with internal teams and other interns.
What you'll do#
- Assist with drafting and reviewing various contracts.
- Support the development of a new contract database.
- Collaborate with internal legal and claims teams, as well as outside counsel, on active litigation files.
- Communicate directly with the company's marine insurance broker.
- Handle day-to-day legal tasks and contribute to special projects as they arise.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a law school program as a J.D. candidate.
- Strong research, writing, and analytical skills with a focus on detail.
- A team-oriented mindset with the ability to take initiative.
- Creative thinking skills and a willingness to try new approaches.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and communicate effectively with diverse groups.
- An interest in maritime law, transportation, or related fields.
- Availability to travel to New Orleans or other locations as required.
