About the role#
This is a paid, full-time summer internship based in Paducah, Kentucky. You will gain hands-on experience in safety operations within the inland marine industry. You will learn how safety programs, audits, and training are implemented while networking with the team.
What you'll do#
- Assist with internal and external vessel compliance activities, including audits, surveys, and Coast Guard inspections.
- Draft risk assessments for various vessel operations.
- Manage and analyze the database of audits, inspections, and expiration dates to track upcoming deadlines.
- Organize safety records, including training files, corrective actions, manuals, and reports.
- Conduct SMS audits to identify gaps between company policy and actual procedures.
- Write content for safety newsletters and alerts.
- Travel to board vessels in remote areas along the river system.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program in Safety or a related field.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work well in a team environment and provide excellent customer service.
- A dependable, punctual, and professional approach to work.
