About the role#
As a Controls Engineer Co-op at Powerex, you will support the engineering team in an office, lab, and manufacturing environment. You will work alongside mechanical and electrical engineers to solve manufacturing issues and design new products. This role offers exposure to the full design process, from concept ideation to production implementation.
What you'll do#
- Create job packets for production orders and maintain engineering drawings.
- Resolve technical issues directly on the production floor.
- Program HMIs to add new functionality.
- Develop skills in PLC, HMI, and VFD programming.
- Design and implement small projects to improve existing product lines.
- Execute Engineering Change Notices.
- Learn ePlan design software.
- Participate in new product development, including prototyping, testing, and implementation.
- Manage complex sustaining projects to enhance product quality.
What you'll need#
- Completion of at least one year of engineering-focused higher education by the start of the co-op.
- A minimum 3.0 GPA.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work both independently and within a team.
- Electrical aptitude with a focus on designing systems with HMIs and PLCs.
- Experience with laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, power supplies, and multimeters is preferred.
