About the role#
This co-op position supports the deployment, evaluation, and implementation of Lean methods within the Marmon Transportation Group. You will report to the Regional Lean Specialist and work directly with employees across all levels of the plant to improve safety, quality, and cost. This is a development role for students looking to build leadership and operational skills.
What you'll do#
- Manage Lean transformation activities and projects at the plant level.
- Facilitate and execute Value Stream Maps and Kaizen or Impact events through all stages, including A3 charter creation and sustainment.
- Collaborate with the automation team to optimize processes and build project justifications.
- Provide formal and informal training, coaching, and mentoring to employees on Lean methods.
- Identify process gaps and implement improvements to meet business metrics.
- Facilitate team meetings to ensure accountability on action items.
- Establish performance measures and report data to track progress against plant objectives.
- Partner with site leadership to assess critical business needs.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Operations Management program.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Word, SharePoint, and Smartsheets.
- Ability to travel 20-50% to other facilities and shops.
- Preference for candidates who can commit to multiple semesters.
- Previous experience with Lean or automation is preferred.
- Working knowledge of CAD packages like SolidWorks or Fusion 360 is preferred.
- Ability to work independently as a self-starter.

- This is a full-time, paid, on-site position.
- Locations include Chicago, Illinois, and various sites across Alabama, North Carolina, Michigan, and Virginia.
