About the role#
The Continuous Improvement Engineering Co-op reports to the Regional Lean Specialist. You will support the deployment and implementation of Lean methods within the Marmon Transportation Group. This role focuses on improving safety, quality, and cost through continuous improvement tools and root cause analysis. You will work directly with employees at all levels within the plant to drive performance.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with local teams to identify process gaps and implement improvement activities.
- Manage lean transformational projects at the plant level.
- Facilitate Value Stream Maps and Kaizen events from initial charter creation through follow-up.
- Provide training, coaching, and mentoring to employees on Lean methods.
- Partner with the automation team to optimize processes and build project justifications.
- Establish performance measures and report progress against plant objectives.
- Work with site leadership to assess business needs and ensure operational priorities are met.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Operations Management programs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Word, SharePoint, and Smartsheets.
- Ability to lead and influence others without formal control.
- Capacity to travel 20-50% to other facilities and shops.
- Previous experience with Lean or automation is a plus.
- Ability to work multiple semesters is preferred.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid, on-site role.
- Locations include Chicago, Illinois, as well as sites in Alabama, North Carolina, and Michigan.
- This position follows a rolling term structure.
