About the role#
As a Refining Chemical Engineering Intern or Co-op, you will gain hands-on experience by working alongside professionals who manage specific portions of the refining process. This role provides exposure to multiple areas of the refinery, helping you understand how different engineering disciplines integrate into a cohesive team. You will build critical thinking skills and improve your written and verbal presentation abilities in a professional environment.
What you'll do#
Depending on your specific assignment, you may support teams in Process/Technical Services, Operations Research, Environmental Engineering, or Products Control/Economics. Your responsibilities may include:
- Developing and leading test runs to optimize refinery operations.
- Performing process engineering calculations and validating production data.
- Monitoring and making recommendations regarding catalysts and adsorbents.
- Completing projects to improve refinery process equipment.
- Developing planning, blending, scheduling, and process models.
- Creating graphical interfaces for refinery process units.
- Assisting with environmental compliance projects, including physical surveys and wastewater treatment tasks.
- Analyzing refinery process flow data to identify equipment variances.
- Updating information on gasoline blends and tank samples.
- Building applications to present data for operating decisions.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree-seeking program majoring in Chemical Engineering.
- Strong academic performance.
- Authorization to work in the United States on a full-time, indefinite basis without the need for visa sponsorship.
- A valid driver's license.
- Availability for multiple work terms is preferred.
- Military experience is considered a plus.
