As a Mechanical Engineering intern or co-op at a Marathon refinery, you will gain hands-on experience by working alongside professionals who manage specific portions of the refining process. You will become familiar with industry codes and best practices while building critical thinking skills and learning how various engineering disciplines function as a cohesive team. You will also have the opportunity to improve your written and verbal communication skills in a professional environment.
What you'll do#
Most interns and co-ops serve in one of two primary capacities:
- Area Refining/Project Engineers: You will develop project management skills by creating project scopes, estimates, and schedules. Once projects are approved, you will oversee the design effort and assist in the construction process.
- Reliability Engineers: You will support the Maintenance Department by designing and developing equipment improvements. This includes performing root cause failure analysis, optimizing maintenance programs for rotating equipment like pumps and compressors, and troubleshooting fixed equipment such as pressure vessels, heat exchangers, and piping systems.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree-seeking program majoring in Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering.
- Strong academic performance.
- A valid driver's license.
- Authorization to work in the U.S. on a full-time, indefinite basis without the need for visa sponsorship.
- Availability for multiple work terms is preferred.
