About the role#
The Madison Mallards and Madison Night Mares are looking for a Merchandise and Retail Operations Intern for the 2027 summer season. This role offers hands-on experience in running a retail store, from inventory management to staff oversight. You will report directly to the Director of Merchandise and Retail Operations.
What you'll do#
- Provide high-level customer service to every shopper.
- Oversee daily store operations and execute company strategies.
- Identify consumer trends to help guide store direction.
- Train part-time staff on sales techniques, POS usage, and game-day duties.
- Assist the buying team with daily inventory tracking.
- Manage the Squarespace ecommerce shop, including order fulfillment and sales tracking.
- Create visual merchandising displays and maintain store cleanliness.
- Manage part-time staff schedules and operations on game days.
- Collaborate with staff and other interns on special events and projects.
- Follow all terms outlined in the Intern Handbook, Code of Conduct, and confidentiality agreements.
What you'll need#
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to problem solve and adapt quickly to new situations.
- A creative eye and attention to detail.
- Ability to lift 40 lbs and stand for long periods.
- Flexibility to work non-game days, nights, and weekends.
- A retail background is preferred.
- Majors in Business Administration, Marketing, or Operations Management are relevant to this role.
Location & details#
- This is a paid, full-time, on-site internship located in Madison, Wisconsin.
- You must be available for extended hours during home games.
About Madison Mallards
The Madison Mallards are a summer collegiate baseball team based in Wisconsin. Founded in 2001, the organization competes in the Northwoods League. The team operates out of Madison and maintains a staff of 86 employees. They focus on spectator sports and manage the Great Dane Duck Blind facility.
