Macy's 2026 Summer Internship - Merchandise Planning & Inventory Management

About the role#

The Merchandise Planning & Inventory Management internship is an 8-week summer program designed to provide hands-on experience in core retail business functions. Interns gain exposure to analytical projects, Supply Chain initiatives, and daily department activities while working to optimize allocation and replenishment strategies. Participants contribute directly to business outcomes, engage in professional development workshops, and network with senior leaders. High-performing interns may be considered for full-time roles within the Executive Development Program.

What you'll do#

• Execute day-to-day allocation and replenishment activities.
• Conduct analysis to support inventory strategies, such as hold and flow or multiple shipments.
• Utilize analytical tools to increase sales, maximize inventory productivity, and minimize markdowns.
• Allocate fashion inventory through central fulfillment based on business needs.
• Support Inventory Managers in gathering inputs for demand forecasting and inventory optimization.
• Identify inventory risks and opportunities through in-season replenishment forecasts.
• Participate in collaborative projects and professional development workshops.

What you'll need#

• Rising Senior status pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Finance, or Marketing with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, including the capacity to interpret financial data and apply retail math.
• Understanding of profitability, assortment planning, and financial performance metrics.
• Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across organizational levels.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with advanced Excel skills including pivot tables, vlookups, and advanced formulas.
• Highly organized, detail-oriented approach with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule based on company needs.
