About the role#
The Graphic Design Intern supports the Marketing and Communications team at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. This role focuses on creating and adapting visual assets for print and digital media. You will work closely with staff to translate messaging concepts into final marketing materials while maintaining the brand style guide. This is a part-time, on-site position for the Fall 2026 term.
What you'll do#
- Design collateral including logos, direct mail, promotional items, website graphics, and social media assets.
- Produce posters, flyers, and branded templates.
- Adapt existing designs to fit various sizes and platforms.
- Serve as a resource for the brand style guide.
- Collaborate with team members to execute marketing projects.
What you'll need#
- Current undergraduate, graduate, or recent graduate (up to 1 year post-grad) in marketing, graphic design, or a related field.
- A portfolio documenting your work samples.
- Extensive knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.
- Understanding of typography, layout, photography, and color.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to receive and process creative feedback.
- Proficiency in Canva, Adobe Express, AfterEffects, Microsoft Suite, and Google Suite is preferred.
- Illustration and web design skills are a plus.
- Interest in the performing arts or opera is a plus.
Location & details#
- Location: Chicago, Illinois.
- Term: October 2026 to December 2026.
- Hours: 20 hours per week, on-site.
- Compensation: $17.05 per hour plus a $30 weekly travel stipend.
- Physical requirements: Ability to sit for extended periods and lift up to 30 pounds.
- Availability: Ability to occasionally oversee evening or weekend functions, deployments, or performances.
