About the role#
The External Engagement Internship provides direct support to the Education and External Engagement Team at the Boston Symphony Orchestra. You will assist the department with strategic planning, project management, and administrative tasks to help drive community engagement and educational programming. This role offers an opportunity to work closely with program managers and directors while gaining exposure to the operations of a major performing arts organization.
What you'll do#
- Support the department’s strategic planning process and project management cycles through research and materials preparation.
- Manage administrative duties for external engagement initiatives, including Community Chamber Concerts and other public events.
- Organize and maintain project databases while assisting with meeting preparations and correspondence.
- Analyze data to help recommend new approaches and strategies for community outreach.
- Assist with fiscal management tasks such as tracking expenditures, monitoring budgets, and reconciling expenses.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment or recent graduation as a college sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student in fields such as Communications, Marketing, Business Administration, Public Health, Media Studies, Psychology, Art, or Civil Engineering.
- Experience with goal setting, event planning, and strategic development.
- Familiarity with project management, data collection, and key performance indicators.
- Proficiency with technology and experience developing organizational systems.
- Knowledge of classical music.
Location & details#
- This is a paid, part-time, on-site internship based in Boston, Massachusetts.
- The term runs from October 1, 2026, to May 31, 2027.
- A minimum of 5 hours per week is required, with flexible scheduling available between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
- Participation in evening or weekend events may be required as needed.
