About the role#
As an Exploratory Software Engineering Intern, you will work on emerging technologies and innovative ideas that could shape the future of retail technology. This role focuses on prototyping solutions, testing new frameworks, and exploring disruptive technologies like artificial intelligence, computer vision, and augmented reality. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to bring ideas from concept to code while gaining insight into how innovation functions at an enterprise scale.
What you'll do#
- Prototype experimental software solutions using modern languages and platforms.
- Explore innovative applications of emerging technologies including artificial intelligence, computer vision, and augmented reality.
- Learn and apply design thinking and rapid prototyping methodologies to validate ideas quickly.
- Collaborate in innovation sprints with engineers, designers, and product managers.
- Present findings and demo prototypes to key stakeholders to gain visibility and feedback.
- Contribute to shaping future products and services while observing how innovation is fostered in a corporate tech environment.
What you'll need#
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Human-Computer Interaction, Data Science, or a related field.
- Expected graduation date of December 2028, May 2029, December 2029, or May 2030.
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Familiarity with one or more programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, C#, or Kotlin.
- Exposure to innovation frameworks like design thinking, agile development, or rapid prototyping.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and presentation skills.
- Previous internship or project experience in a creative or technical environment.
- A genuine curiosity for emerging technologies and a drive for innovation.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid internship.
- The role is based on-site at the Lowe's Tech Hub in Charlotte, North Carolina.
- The program runs for 10 weeks, from May 24, 2027, through July 30, 2027.
