About the role#

LATYS is seeking a motivated PhD student to conduct research at the intersection of academic theory and industrial application. Based at Polytechnique Montréal under the supervision of Prof. Güneş Karabulut Kurt, this role focuses on designing, implementing, and validating hardware-based experimental systems. You will work within the Poly-Grames Research Centre, utilizing advanced laboratory equipment to develop technologies that optimize wireless coverage and performance in challenging environments.

What you'll do#

• Conduct doctoral-level research with a core focus on hardware implementation and experimental validation.
• Design, develop, and test hardware-oriented experimental platforms and prototypes.
• Manage hardware and software integration, system configuration, debugging, and performance evaluation.
• Analyze experimental results and correlate them with research objectives, simulations, and theoretical models.
• Document technical progress and contribute to scientific publications, project reports, and deliverables.
• Collaborate with academic and industrial partners on experimental research activities.

What you'll need#

• Strong hands-on experience with hardware platforms, experimental systems, or laboratory implementation.
• Proficiency in at least one of the following: FPGA, SDR, embedded systems, RF systems, or digital signal processing.
• Programming skills in one or more languages, such as Python, MATLAB, C/C++, Verilog, or VHDL.
• Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot hardware and software issues while working independently in a lab setting.
• Strong motivation to pursue research that bridges theoretical analysis and practical implementation.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.
