About the role#
The Lansing School District is hiring a Specialized Assistant to work at Lansing Tech High School. This role focuses on the safety and success of students, particularly those with disabilities. You will build relationships with students, support teachers during lessons, and interact with families. This position is a key part of the student support structure.
What you'll do#
- Work with students in one-on-one and small group settings, with a focus on those with special education needs.
- Prioritize tasks assigned by teachers and school leaders.
- Maintain the safety of students on your caseload.
- Build relationships with students and parents to create a welcoming learning environment.
- Incorporate feedback from colleagues and professional development sessions to improve your practice.
- Perform other duties as needed to support the district mission.
What you'll need#
- An Associate's degree, 60 completed college credits, or proof of passing the ETS Paraprofessional Exam.
- A desire to become a certified teacher long term.
- Experience working with students in small group and RTI settings is preferred.
- An understanding of how to read and interpret a student's IEP.
