About the role#
This internship offers an insider view of process engineering within our manufacturing facilities. You will work on individual tasks and participate in project teams to improve the production of locomotive and freight car braking systems. The program includes regular feedback and concludes with a presentation to company leaders.
What you'll do#
- Evaluate product improvement and cost optimization projects through trials, including plan development and report writing.
- Monitor, analyze, and optimize process quality and conditions to reduce variability.
- Provide engineering support to increase manufacturing capacity and lower costs.
- Assist with machine shutdowns and start-ups.
- Support capital project work from initial scoping through final installation under technical supervision.
- Contribute to the design and technical supervision of plant studies.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a Junior or Senior in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
- A minimum 3.0 GPA.
- Understanding of 5S methodology and Lean manufacturing principles.
- Strong communication, time management, and organizational skills.
Location & details#
- Location: Riverside, Missouri.
- Term: Summer 2027 (mid-May through mid-August).
- Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: This is a paid internship.
