About the role#
This internship provides project-based work within the HSE department. You will work on-site in West Chicago during the Summer 2027 term. You will collaborate with a mentor and various teams to support environmental efficiency, safety, and ergonomics.
What you'll do#
- Develop and implement programs for environmental efficiency, employee safety, and equipment ergonomics.
- Monitor, analyze, and report on operational safety, environmental, and sustainability metrics.
- Join new equipment launch teams to handle job hazard analysis, PPE assessments, machine guarding, waste evaluations, and regulatory permitting.
- Help investigate and resolve occupational injuries, environmental incidents, and property loss events.
- Support process safety improvement projects using lean, project management, and six sigma tools.
- Participate in auditing teams to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, ISO14001, and OHSAS18001 standards.
- Create safety and environmental training materials, communications, and participate in employee events.
- Coordinate with the HSE, Facilities, and Engineering departments.
What you'll need#
- Bachelor's degree pursuit in Health and Safety or Industrial Engineering.
- Current standing as at least an incoming Junior.
- Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to multi-task and learn new assignments quickly.
- Resourceful mindset and self-motivation.
- Knowledge of statistical tools is preferred.
