The Mechanic Intern position is a full-time, paid summer internship running from June through August 2026. Interns will gain hands-on experience working on heavy equipment and trucks, including learning how to order parts, create maintenance records, and manage equipment repairs. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, though hours may vary based on weather and customer demand.
What you'll do#
- Diagnose and repair engines, hydraulic systems, and various heavy equipment or truck issues.
- Perform daily equipment, walk-around, and site inspections to identify and correct unsafe conditions.
- Conduct routine maintenance, including lubricating, fueling, and cleaning heavy equipment and trucks.
- Troubleshoot equipment problems and collaborate with mechanics and management on repairs.
- Dismantle equipment, examine parts for wear or damage, replace defective components, and reassemble units.
- Perform tire checks and replacements.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and DNR safety and environmental regulations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a college degree program for Diesel Mechanic or Automotive Technology.
- High School diploma or GED.
- A genuine interest in mechanical work.
- A valid Driver’s License is required; the ability to obtain a Class A CDL is preferred (training provided via the Entry Level Driver Trainee Program).
- Ability to perform repetitive work consistently and maintain effective communication with team members.

- Location: Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
- Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: $21.25 per hour.
- Requirements: Subject to pre-employment drug testing and background checks.
