    About the role#

    As a Fleet Maintenance Intern, you will gain hands-on experience working on heavy equipment and trucks. You will assist in diagnosing mechanical and hydraulic issues, replacing malfunctioning parts, and learning the administrative side of maintenance, including ordering parts and maintaining records. This internship runs from June through August 2026.

    What you'll do#

    • Perform daily walk-around and site inspections to identify unsafe conditions and ensure proper equipment maintenance.
    • Execute routine maintenance tasks, including lubricating, fueling, and cleaning heavy equipment and trucks.
    • Troubleshoot equipment issues and repairs in collaboration with mechanics and management.
    • Dismantle and examine parts for wear or damage, replace defective components, and reassemble equipment.
    • Perform tire checks and replacements.
    • Monitor and ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and DNR safety and environmental regulations.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in a college program for Diesel Mechanic or Automotive Technology.
    • High School diploma or GED.
    • A strong mechanical interest.
    • A valid driver’s license; the ability to obtain a Class A CDL is preferred (training provided via the Entry Level Driver Trainee Program).
    • Ability to work effectively in a team, communicate clearly, and maintain a professional demeanor.
    • Capacity to perform consistent, repetitive work while maintaining situational awareness of surroundings and traffic.

    Location & details#

    • Location: Bismarck, North Dakota.
    • Term: Summer 2026 (June – August).
    • Schedule: Typical hours are Monday – Friday, 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM, subject to variation based on weather and customer demand.
    • Employment type: Full-time, paid internship.
    • Requirements: Subject to pre-employment drug testing and background checks.
