About the role#
The Cybersecurity Intern position is based within the Kimball Electronics Shared Services team, reporting directly to the Senior Cybersecurity Engineer. You will work with professionals across our global organization to gain hands-on experience in security operations, vulnerability management, incident response, and risk management. This role is designed to provide practical experience in protecting systems, data, and operations within a global manufacturing environment.
What you'll do#
- Learn Kimball Electronics Guiding Principles and cultural attributes.
- Develop an understanding of cybersecurity operations in a global manufacturing setting.
- Monitor and triage security alerts and events.
- Assist with vulnerability assessment, management, and remediation tracking.
- Support incident response procedures, investigation techniques, and documentation development.
- Participate in projects to improve the organization's security posture.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and operational efficiencies.
- Develop PowerShell or other automation scripts for cybersecurity operations.
- Review SOC daily low-severity reports and support Identity and Access Management (IAM) projects.
- Assist with security awareness initiatives, phishing simulation campaigns, and email-related remediation.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Cybersecurity, Information Security, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Demonstrated interest in cybersecurity through coursework, certifications, labs, projects, or extracurricular activities.
- Basic understanding of Windows operating systems and networking concepts.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- A mindset focused on continuous learning and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid remote internship.
- The pay range for this role is $18 to $20 per hour, with actual wages varying based on experience, education, and geography.
- This role is offered on a rolling basis.
