About the role#
We are looking for an Electrical Engineering student to join our team for a Summer 2027 internship. You will work with design professionals on substation, transmission, and distribution projects ranging from 12kV to 500kV. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Lenexa, Kansas.
What you'll do#
- Create project design documents, drawings, and wiring diagrams from schematics.
- Generate bills of materials and apply field mark-ups to as-built drawings.
- Assist with engineering calculations, including relay burden, lighting, load flow, and short circuit analysis.
- Use engineering software to support ground grid design, transformer sizing, and relay coordination.
- Monitor project schedules and coordinate with project engineers to meet deadlines.
- Manage project documentation and apply corporate engineering standards.
- Communicate with project stakeholders and take ownership of the quality and accuracy of your work.
- Identify potential project issues and propose solutions to your supervisor.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- A power background is preferred.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
- A GPA above 3.0 is preferred.
- Basic knowledge of AC/DC fundamentals, three-phase power systems, and per-unit mathematics.
- Familiarity with substation components and engineering standards such as NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, and ANSI.
- Proficiency with common word processing, spreadsheet, and email software.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate clearly.
