About the role#
Ethicon, a member of the Johnson & Johnson family of companies, is seeking an R&D Co-Op to join the Wound Closure and Healing team in Raritan, New Jersey. This role focuses on new product development, specifically addressing unmet needs in wound closure, antibacterial technologies, and cardiovascular surgery. You will work alongside scientists and engineers to support the development of medical devices.
What you'll do#
- Perform hands-on laboratory work and utilize bespoke machining processes for medical device builds.
- Test and characterize prototype devices and competitive products.
- Attend and participate in Voice-of-Customer labs with surgeons.
- Collaborate with engineers and outside suppliers on project activities.
- Generate 3D models and use 3D printing to develop test methods and fixtures.
- Support project studies by writing test protocols, generating final reports, and documenting meeting minutes.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in an accredited university pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or other related fields.
- Must be a Sophomore, Junior, or Senior student with a minimum GPA of 2.8.
- Ability to work full-time (40 hours per week) on-site in a laboratory environment.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Excel.
- Strong problem-solving skills, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to balance multiple projects.
- Legally authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for employment visa sponsorship.
- Must have reliable transportation to and from work daily.
