Mechanical Engineer or Naval Architecture Engineer, Co-op

About the role#

Fleetway Inc. is seeking a Mechanical or Naval Architecture Engineering student for a Fall 2026 co-op placement in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. This role offers exposure to a wide variety of government, military, commercial, and industrial projects. You will work alongside a team of naval architects, mechanical and electrical engineers, and technologists, with the ability to tailor your experience toward either specialized projects or broad technical exposure.

What you'll do#

• Develop and interpret 3D models of equipment, foundations, piping systems, and structures for client vessels.
• Create and interpret 2D drawings, including parts, assemblies, installations, and various diagrams.
• Research vessel documentation, review engineering changes, and ensure documentation accuracy.
• Manage and implement Engineering Changes (ECs) to ensure new or sustained capabilities.
• Support projects through the full lifecycle, from initial change to installation and final acceptance on board vessels.
• Conduct engineering analyses, including finite element analysis, weight calculations, and stability assessments.
• Perform market research, option analysis, system requirement determination, and equipment selection.
• Develop technical studies, specifications, and reports for various vessel types.

What you'll need#

• Enrolment in a Mechanical Engineering or Ocean Naval Engineering program at Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN).
• Familiarity with AutoCAD.
• Interest in Rhino or other 3D modeling software.
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Ability to meet requirements for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP) and Canadian Government Security Clearance.
