STUDENT-Summer Pre-College Teaching Assistant (TA)

About the role#

Ithaca College is seeking Teaching Assistants (TAs) to support high school students participating in Summer Pre-College Programs. This role involves providing leadership, organizational support, and classroom management to assist faculty and students. The program runs from July 13th through July 31st, 2025, with prep work beginning around July 6th. TAs work approximately 25-30 hours per week at an hourly rate of $16.00.

What you'll do#

• Assist faculty with lesson preparation, including classroom setup, material distribution, and equipment management.
• Lead discussion groups, oversee projects, and provide one-on-one or small-group lesson reviews.
• Provide extra support to participants who require accommodations or are struggling with course material.
• Track attendance and assist with grading assignments.
• Collaborate with faculty to address student concerns or behavioral issues and recommend solutions.
• Reinforce course rules and regulations while serving as a role model for professional behavior and inclusivity.
• Assist with the movement of participants between campus locations.

What you'll need#

• Genuine interest in working with a diverse group of students in a learning environment.
• Ability to foster community development through various methods.
• Prior experience as a teaching assistant or working with youth in a camp environment is preferred.
• A history of providing leadership to a variety of age groups.
• Ability to pass a federal and state criminal history and sex offender background check.
• Alignment with the academic and experiential requirements of the specific program or course.
