About the role#
The Retail Cafe Barista supports beverage preparation, food service, and the guest experience at Ithaca College. This role focuses on hospitality and quality, involving the preparation of specialty drinks and menu items while maintaining a clean, organized, and safe environment. This is a paid, on-site student employment position designed to provide experiential learning and professional development.
What you'll do#
- Greet and serve guests with a professional demeanor.
- Prepare specialty beverages, sandwiches, and light menu items, including fulfilling Grubhub orders.
- Operate point-of-sale (POS) systems and handle transactions accurately.
- Maintain knowledge of all menu items, including ingredients and allergens.
- Follow all food handling, sanitation, and safety procedures, including temperature recording and equipment safety.
- Keep workstations stocked, clean, and sanitized throughout the shift.
- Assist with dining room setup, inventory, and end-of-shift cleaning.
- Communicate clearly with team members and supervisors to ensure smooth service.
What you'll need#
- Availability for a minimum of 3 shifts per week.
- Ability to multitask and communicate clearly in a busy environment.
- Willingness to follow all food safety and sanitation guidelines.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift throughout the shift.
- No prior barista or food service experience is required, as full on-the-job training is provided.
- Must be able to wear the required uniform, including closed-toed shoes and a hair covering.
