About the role#
OAOA Academic Strategists support fellow students with their academic development throughout their time at the college. This position offers an opportunity to build professional skills while fostering engagement within the OAOA community. Strategists assist peers with exam preparation, test-taking, note-taking, presentation skills, and proper citations. This is a paid student employment position requiring up to 5 hours per week during the fall semester.
What you'll do#
- Provide personalized academic support tailored to student needs.
- Conduct outreach to encourage the use of available services.
- Hold weekly office hours and meet with students by appointment.
- Lead one academic skills workshop per semester.
- Foster an inclusive environment while modeling integrity and respect.
- Adhere to established confidentiality and privacy policies.
- Participate in professional development, including mandatory SLI sessions, training, and supervisor meetings.
What you'll need#
- Current participation in OAOA.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
- Excellent listening, written, and communication skills.
- Ability to be empathetic and normalize anxieties regarding academic struggle.
- Patience and creativity when working with students who may be struggling with motivation or course content.
- Preference is given to candidates with previous experience in tutoring or academic support roles.
