About the role#
The Office of New Student and Transition Programs (NSTP) hires five Orientation Mentors to guide student staff through their roles, support incoming students and their families, and implement orientation programming. Mentors act as a bridge between professional staff and student leaders, serving as key members of the Orientation Leadership Team.
What you'll do#
- Assist NSTP staff with event preparation, including set-up, tear-down, check-in, and troubleshooting.
- Facilitate small group discussions with Orientation Leaders to share resources and strategies for supporting new students.
- Serve as a mentor, educator, and positive role model for Orientation Leaders throughout their training and the program.
- Act as a liaison by providing detailed reports to professional staff following daily meetings.
- Lead and participate in training sessions, including panels and co-presentations.
- Participate in individual check-in meetings with professional staff.
- Educate incoming students on available academic, social, career, and mental health support services.
- Provide feedback to supervisors regarding events and the student experience.
- Escort students and families around campus and assist with crowd management and crisis response.
What you'll need#
- Prior experience working as an Orientation Leader during at least one Ithaca College orientation program.
- Full-time enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student from the time of hire through December 2027.
- Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated multicultural awareness and a commitment to an inclusive, respectful campus community.
- Proven work ethic, time management, and attention to detail.
- Ability to present yourself professionally and confidently to students, families, and campus partners.
- Ability to manage stress effectively and support others in doing the same.
- Experience working directly with people from traditionally marginalized populations.
- Must adhere to all Office of New Student and Transition Programs policies, the Student Conduct Code, and all applicable laws.

- Position is located in Ithaca, New York.
- This is a paid, part-time position.
- Work occurs during the Summer and Fall of 2027.
- Employment is subject to a criminal background check.
