About the role#
The Department of Composition and Music Studies is hiring a student peer tutor to support students in music theory and aural skills for the 2026-27 academic year. This position provides an opportunity to assist peers with their coursework while developing professional skills.
What you'll do#
- Provide tutoring in music theory for an average of 4-5 hours per week.
- Assist with aural skills tutoring on an as-needed basis.
- Maintain a static schedule, typically between 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., with additional appointments as arranged.
- Support students during final exam periods.
- Communicate effectively with students to facilitate learning.
What you'll need#
- Outstanding academic achievement as evidenced by GPA.
- Grades of A or A- in all music theory and aural skills courses taken.
- Current enrollment in or completion of Music Theory III and Aural Skills IV.
- Prior formal or informal experience teaching or tutoring aural skills and music theory.
- Excellent communication skills and personal qualities such as patience, maturity, and a friendly, approachable manner.
- Rising Junior status is preferred.
