About the role#
The Department of Composition and Music Studies is seeking a student peer tutor to support students in music theory during the 2026-27 academic year. This position offers 4-5 hours of work per week, providing an opportunity to apply academic knowledge in a one-on-one setting.
What you'll do#
- Provide tutoring in music theory to a wide range of students.
- Assist with aural skills tutoring on an as-needed basis.
- Maintain a static schedule, typically between 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., with additional appointments arranged as necessary.
- Support students during the academic year, including final exam periods.
- Communicate effectively with students to facilitate learning.
What you'll need#
- Outstanding academic achievement as demonstrated by GPA.
- Grades of A or A- in all completed aural skills and music theory courses.
- Current enrollment in or past completion of Music Theory III and Aural Skills IV.
- Prior formal or informal experience teaching or tutoring aural skills and music theory.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including patience, active listening, and a professional demeanor.
- Rising Junior status is preferred.
