About the role#
House Managers are student leaders who oversee stage crew, ushers, and attendance scanners for concerts and recitals at the Whalen School of Music. You will act as the primary contact for backstage operations, working with conductors, performers, and crew to ensure each performance runs smoothly.
What you'll do#
- Manage the flow of audience members into and out of performance spaces to ensure events start on time.
- Direct stage crew and ushers in safety practices and concert etiquette.
- Lead stage crew during performances to move instruments and furniture efficiently.
- Support performers backstage by overseeing stage entrances and exits and keeping time.
- Coordinate with event organizers to gather stage diagrams and event details.
- Attend weekly meetings with other House Managers to discuss responsibilities and solve operational problems.
What you'll need#
- You must be a current member of the MTD Performance Crew to apply.
- Strong communication skills to coordinate with performers and crew members.
- Ability to direct others and provide guidance on safety and etiquette.
- Experience managing stage crews or similar leadership roles is preferred.
- Familiarity with backstage operations in performance settings is a plus.

- This position is located in Ithaca, New York.
- The role is on-site and full-time.
- This is a paid position with a pay range of $16.30 to $16.45 per hour.
- The term is rolling.
