About the role#
House Managers serve as student leaders who oversee backstage operations for concerts and recitals at the Whalen School of Music. In this role, you act as the primary point of contact for conductors, performers, and crew members to ensure smooth and successful events.
What you'll do#
- Ensure concerts start on time by managing the flow of audience members into and out of performance spaces.
- Direct stage crew and ushers in safety practices and concert etiquette.
- Lead stage crew members during stage changes, including the efficient movement of instruments and furniture.
- Support performers backstage by overseeing entrances, exits, and timing.
- Coordinate with performers and event organizers to obtain stage diagrams and event details.
- Attend weekly meetings with other House Managers to discuss responsibilities and solve operational problems.
What you'll need#
- You must be a current member of the MTD Performance Crew to apply.
- Strong communication skills to effectively coordinate with performers and crew.
- Ability to provide clear direction and guidance regarding safety and concert etiquette.
- Previous experience in managing stage crews or similar leadership roles is preferred.
- Familiarity with backstage operations in performance settings is a plus.

- Compensation: $16.30 - $16.45 per hour.
