About the role#
House Managers serve as student leaders responsible for overseeing backstage operations for concerts and recitals at the Whalen School of Music. You will act as the primary point of contact for conductors, performers, and crew members to ensure successful events. This role involves managing a team of stage crew, ushers, and attendance scanners.
What you'll do#
- Coordinate with performers and event organizers to gather stage diagrams and event details.
- Ensure concerts begin on time by managing the flow of audience members into and out of performance spaces.
- Lead stage crew members through efficient stage changes, including moving furniture and instruments.
- Support performers backstage by overseeing stage entrances and exits and keeping time.
- Direct crew and ushers in safety practices and concert etiquette.
- Participate in weekly meetings with other House Managers to discuss responsibilities and solve operational challenges.
What you'll need#
- Must be a current member of the MTD Performance Crew.
- Strong communication skills to effectively coordinate with performers and crew.
- Ability to provide guidance and direction regarding safety and concert etiquette.
- Experience in managing stage crews or similar leadership roles is preferred.
- Familiarity with backstage operations in performance settings is a plus.

- Location: Ithaca, New York.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: $16.30 - $16.45 per hour.
- Status: Paid, full-time student position.
