About the role#
The Unity Center is seeking a Student Media Assistant to document and promote campus programs and events. This role focuses on visual storytelling to ensure students feel seen, valued, and represented. You will work across the academic year to capture the student experience and support the center's mission of fostering belonging and visibility.
What you'll do#
- Attend Unity Center programs and events to capture high-quality photos and videos.
- Create engaging social media content, including reels, short videos, and recap posts.
- Organize and maintain digital media files in a structured and accessible way.
- Collaborate with staff to highlight key moments, stories, and student experiences.
- Support the creation of event recaps and promotional materials.
- Attend staff meetings to contribute ideas for content and storytelling.
What you'll need#
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Interest or experience in photography, videography, or content creation.
- Comfort using social media platforms such as Instagram.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends for events.
- Reliability and the ability to meet deadlines.
- A passion for storytelling and supporting diverse student communities.
- Preferred but not required: Experience with editing tools like Canva, Adobe Premiere, CapCut, or Lightroom, and an eye for visual composition.

- Location: Ithaca, New York.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Employment Term: Full academic year (Fall and Spring semesters), with optional Winter and Summer opportunities.
- Compensation: $16.00 per hour.
