About the role#
The Makerspace Technology Specialist provides direct support for the Ithaca College Makerspace and Digital Media Lab. This role involves staffing the labs, assisting users with creative projects, and maintaining the equipment. It is a hands-on position that allows students to gain experience with a variety of creative technologies in a multidisciplinary environment.
What you'll do#
- Consult with and assist students, staff, and faculty with creative projects.
- Teach users the basic operation of technology, including sewing machines, Cricut die-cutting, hand-held power tools, 3D printing, and laser cutting.
- Assist clients in preparing digital files for laser cutting, 3D printing, and button making.
- Plan and execute workshops and events based on personal interest and lab needs.
- Manage photo and video equipment reservations.
- Provide support for the podcast studio, photo studio, and virtual reality experiences.
- Troubleshoot hardware and software issues on Mac, PC, and Makerspace equipment.
- Maintain cleanliness and tidiness in the labs while ensuring all users follow safety protocols.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a student at Ithaca College.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently.
- Clear verbal communication skills and the ability to use Microsoft Teams.
- Ability to adhere to and enforce lab safety protocols.
- Reliability and the ability to communicate in advance regarding shift attendance.
- A desire to learn new technologies and help others in a welcoming environment.
- Preferred experience includes customer service, Makerspace technologies, creative software like Adobe Illustrator, or audio/video equipment.
Location & details#
- Location: Friends Hall 102 (Makerspace) and Job 102 (Digital Media Lab), Ithaca, New York.
- Term: Summer 2026.
- Commitment: Approximately 8-12 hours per week.
- Hours: Monday – Friday, 11am – 7pm; Saturdays, 12pm – 4pm.
- Compensation: $16.00/hr.
