About the role#
The Makerspace Technology Specialist provides support for the Ithaca College Makerspace and Digital Media Lab. This role involves staffing the labs, assisting users with creative projects, and maintaining the equipment. It is a hands-on position that offers experience with a variety of creative technologies in a collaborative environment.
What you'll do#
- Consult with students, staff, and faculty on academic and recreational creative projects.
- Teach users how to operate equipment including sewing machines, Cricut die-cutting machines, hand-held power tools, 3D printers, and laser cutters.
- Assist clients in preparing digital files for production.
- Plan and execute workshops and events based on personal interest and lab needs.
- Manage equipment reservations and assist users in the podcast studio, photo studio, and with virtual reality experiences.
- Troubleshoot hardware and software issues on Mac and PC systems.
- Maintain cleanliness and order in the labs while ensuring all users follow safety protocols.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a student at Ithaca College.
- Ability to work independently and adhere to lab safety protocols.
- Strong communication skills for interacting with coworkers and supervisors verbally and via Microsoft Teams.
- Reliability and the ability to provide advance notice for shift absences.
- A desire to learn new technologies and help others in a welcoming environment.
- Preferred experience includes customer service, Makerspace technologies, media equipment, or software such as Adobe Illustrator, Canva, and 3D modeling tools.
Location & details#
- Location: Ithaca, New York.
- Term: Summer 2026.
- Work Modality: On-site at Friends Hall 102 and Job 102.
- Schedule: Approximately 8 to 12 hours per week, with shifts available Monday through Friday between 11am and 7pm, and Saturdays between 12pm and 4pm.
- Compensation: $16.00 per hour.
