About the role#
Lifeguards in the Athletics Department are responsible for the safe and effective day-to-day operation of the swimming pools, locker rooms, and deck areas. This position requires maintaining high levels of physical and mental fitness to ensure the safety of all patrons.
What you'll do#
- Supervise and operate the swimming pool effectively, ensuring no pool is left unguarded.
- Enforce facility policies, rules, and regulations while actively practicing preventative lifeguarding strategies.
- Implement emergency action plans as needed.
- Monitor the pool from designated guarding stations and follow established rotation policies.
- Communicate clearly with patrons to address behaviors that jeopardize safety.
- Maintain a professional demeanor, wear the required Ithaca College uniform, and adhere to assigned work schedules.
What you'll need#
- Current American Red Cross certification in CPR for the Professional Rescuer.
- Current Red Cross Lifeguard Training or Waterfront Lifeguarding certification.
- Ability to maintain current certifications and a successful test-out level of knowledge, skills, and fitness throughout employment.
- Preferred majors include Public Health, Kinesiology, or Biology.
