About the role#
The LGBTQ Center Student Coordinator for Community Engagement advocates for the needs of LGBTQ+ students and educates the campus community on relevant topics. This role involves providing outreach for the Center, supporting events, and connecting students with campus resources. You will work 6 hours per week, which includes attending weekly staff and supervisor meetings. This is a paid position.
What you'll do#
- Plan and carry out initiatives and events for LGBTQ+ students.
- Assist the Director and Pride Fellow with planning staple programming like the Welcome Reception and Lavender Graduation.
- Communicate with the LGBTQ+ student community to understand their needs and the campus climate.
- Greet visitors and foster an inclusive environment in the Center.
- Develop informational and educational materials on LGBTQ+ topics.
- Collaborate with student staff and campus partners on outreach activities.
- Provide peer-to-peer support and referrals to students.
- Handle general office support and maintenance tasks.
- Communicate proactively with supervisors and peers.
What you'll need#
- Must be a currently enrolled student at Ithaca College.
- Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 and stay in good academic standing.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the experiences and needs of historically marginalized students.
- Ability to maintain high levels of confidentiality regarding Center documents and conversations.
- Professional conduct as a representative of the LGBTQ Center and a student leader.
- Availability for staff training at the beginning of each semester.
- Previous experience with leadership, event planning, or community engagement is preferred.
