About the role#
This position supports the daily operations of the Handwerker Gallery. Staff members take on a variety of tasks that shift based on current exhibitions and specific needs. You will gain experience in gallery maintenance, event support, and behind-the-scenes installation work.
What you'll do#
- Monitor the gallery space, provide visitor assistance, and maintain the facility.
- Create content for gallery social media accounts.
- Answer the phone and perform light cleaning.
- Help host events, guest speakers, and class visits, including setting up audio/visual equipment and arranging seating.
- Assist with installations and de-installations, including art handling and working directly with artists.
- Perform light construction tasks such as lighting, signage, wall spackling, and painting.
- Conduct research for exhibitions or work with the permanent collection when opportunities arise.
What you'll need#
- A responsible, friendly, and detail-oriented approach.
- Good organizational and communication skills.
- A strong interest in supporting the arts at Ithaca College.
- The ability to solve problems and learn from mistakes.
- Familiarity with Instagram and Facebook is essential.
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom is preferred.
- Hand tool experience is helpful but not required.
