About the role#
This position supports the South Hill School Age Program by assisting Team Teachers and Directors with daily activities and the overall schedule. This is a paid Federal Work Study opportunity for students interested in childhood development, offering 7 to 20 hours of work per week during the summer of 2026.
What you'll do#
- Ensure the safety of all children during group and individual activities.
- Assist staff in implementing lesson plans, including outdoor play, gym activities, projects, and homework help.
- Help children resolve conflicts and report incidents to the Directors.
- Supervise children during clean-up and maintain the orderliness of equipment and program areas.
- Discuss children's progress and needs with other staff members and consult on discipline or concerns.
- Attend staff orientation and complete all required training.
What you'll need#
- Experience working with school-age children.
- A passion for childhood development and the ability to share interests and creativity with children.
- Strong decision-making abilities and the capacity to work effectively as part of a team.
- An enthusiastic, responsible, patient, and compassionate approach to work.
- Current Federal Work Study award eligibility.
- Preferred majors include Psychology, Sociology, Human Resources, Kinesiology, or Public Health.
